By garnering 67 points from 34 matches, Esteghlal FC managed to win the title of Iran Pro League, also known as Persian Gulf League. In their last game against Damash Gilan, Esteghlal defeated by two goals, but the Tehran-based team had secured its championship from one week ago.
Farhad Majidi, the captain of Esteghlal and one of the most popular football players in Iran, lifted IPL cup in front of 90,000 spectators who joined Azadi Sports Complex to encourage their favorite club.
This was the third championship of Esteghlal with Amir Ghalenoei. Under the tutelage of Ghalenoei, Esteghlal won IPL title in 2005-6, 2008–09 and 2012–13 seasons. In 2010 and 2011, Amir Ghalenoei named as the Iranian Manager of the Year.
